SUMMARY:Oyinkan Braithwaite My Sister\, the Serial Killer - Novel Writers
DESCRIPTION:Each month we invite a debut novelist to read from and talk about their work in an informal setting. Prior knowledge of the text is not essential. Topics of discussion include theme\, structure\, inspiration and the craft of writing. These sessions are a great way to discover new writing talent and great books. \nOyinkan Braithwaite is a graduate of Creative Writing and Law from Kingston University. Following her degree\, she worked as an assistant editor at Kachifo and has been freelancing as a writer and editor since. She has had short stories published in anthologies and has also self-published work. In 2014\, she was shortlisted as a top ten spoken word artist in the Eko Poetry Slam.

DESCRIPTION:An up close and personal course aimed at the experienced short story writer\, entirely made up of tutorials with an optional masterclass. We’ll set tasks and exercises focused on each writer’s particular practice and help you mine theme\, character and emotional development. We’ll also discuss the role of place in fiction\, routes to publication and the resources that can help you sustain yourself economically and creatively. \nAnd of course\, this all takes place on the idyllic grounds of The Hurst\, an ideal environment to explore the magic of short stories. SUMMARY:A Show of Hands
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition of posters and ephemera is inspired by the manicule\, or printer’s fist\, which has been pointing the way to readers for hundreds of years. Expect quirky wordplay\, visual puns and decorative joy as today’s letterpress practitioners rise to the challenge and join us in A Show of Hands. \nCurated by our visiting research fellow\, Tim Jollands\, this exhibition brings together over eighty printed celebrations of the manicule\, most of them produced specially for the exhibition. We have contributions from a wide range of printers\, including many established and emerging fine-press printers and book artists—Tom Sowden and Jane Shaw from Bath Spa among them! The exhibition will run from 30 September to 19 October. \nIt will be open to the public from 5 to 13 October as part of the town’s Peacock Arts Trail\, and then again 18 to 19 October as part of StoryTown.

SUMMARY:Mini Sixty Celebration
DESCRIPTION:This show is a light-hearted drive through the history of the Mini – Britain’s most iconic small car celebrating its 60th birthday. In this one woman show\, you will “meet” various characters associated with the Mini. \nThe show is performed by Carenza Ellery\, who has 10 years experience with various local groups and training in a variety of roles on stage and behind it including acting\, directing and script-writing. She performs regularly at Bath Story Telling Circle. She was first infected with the Mini bug in 2003 and the affliction gets worse each year. She owns three Minis – but despite being very small cars\, she can’t get one through the stage door. You don’t have to be a Mini fanatic to enjoy the show – but beware\, you might get converted! Family friendly – no swearing! Feel free to wear period dress – several decades to choose from – there might even be some very small prizes.
